Inactive Practice and/or to return to Active Practice for OHTs

With effect from 1 June 2020, the administrative policy for Did-Not-Apply-Licence (DNAL) application has been rescinded by Council. OHTs who has no intention to engage in active practice of dentistry (for reasons such as pursuing higher education or accompanying spouse overseas etc.), will not be required to apply for DNAL. Instead, they can decide not to renew their Practising Certificate (PC) and allow it to lapse after the expiry date.

Under section 20(2) of the Dental Registration Act, dental professionals are allowed to stay “On” register for up to 5 years after his/her PC has expired, before their names are removed from the register. In the event that their names are removed from the register, dental professionals can restore their names anytime should they wish to resume practice.

To return to active practice

OHTs who wishes to return to active practice, they are required to meet the following requirements:

(i) For OHTs who have not renewed their PC for less than 5 years

You are required to:

Minimum of 9 CPE points with 20% core requirement and at least 7 verifiable CPE points must be accumulated within the last 6 months before starting active practice.

You need to submit the requisite CPE points via online system before writing to Singapore Dental Council to re-activate your practising certificate.

(ii) For OHTs who have not renewed PC for more than 5 years and their names have been removed from the register

You have to meet the same requirements as those that were spelt out for (i) above and you need to apply online for Restoration of name back to register.

Restoration

In the event that their names are removed from register, dental professionals can restore their names anytime should they wish to resume practice.
